About Zaina Foundation.
Zaina Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2017 and registered under the NGO Act of 2002. The Foundation is dedicated to promoting digital rights and digital inclusion in Tanzania, with a strong focus on empowering women in technology and expanding civic space through the use of digital tools and innovation.
To advance this mission, Zaina Foundation delivers training programs for women, journalists, and human rights defenders to strengthen digital resilience, online safety, and leadership in the digital space. The organization also works to localize open-source digital tools and resources by translating them into Kiswahili, ensuring that Swahili-speaking communities can access technology safely, confidently, and inclusively.
Zaina Foundation actively advocates for internet freedom and against internet shutdowns in Tanzania, while also addressing gender-based disinformation and technology-facilitated gender-based violence. The organization promotes inclusive internet governance and conducts research on digital rights, digital inclusion, and climate justice affecting marginalized women and communities.
