Our Story

Building a Safer, More Inclusive Digital Future for Women and Communities in Tanzania and Beyond

Zaina Foundation works to advance digital rights, inclusion, and safety in Tanzania and across the region. As digital technologies increasingly shape how people communicate, learn, organize, and participate in public life, we believe that protecting digital rights is essential to protecting human rights. While digital platforms create opportunities for economic empowerment, civic engagement, and social connection, they also expose communities to growing risks such as internet shutdowns, surveillance, misinformation, privacy violations, gender-based digital violence, and unequal access to emerging technologies.
Founded to respond to these challenges, Zaina Foundation promotes digital inclusion, strengthens women’s leadership in technology, and advances rights-based digital governance. Our strategic priorities focus on advancing internet freedom, strengthening privacy and data protection, building capacity on artificial intelligence (AI), and strengthening coalition and movement building to create a safer and more inclusive digital ecosystem.
